Office of Population Affairs

I am the lead engineer on this website for the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health. I just finished upgrading it to Drupal 10. The site administers the Title X family planning, Teen Pregnancy Prevention, and Embryo Adoption Awareness and Services programs.

CDC OD2A Technical Assistance Center

On this CDC sub-site, we migrated a Drupal 7 site to Drupal 9. I created a new custom theme that adapted the U.S. Web Design System. USWDS makes it easier to build accessible, mobile-friendly government websites.

Migrate!

Our federal clients wanted to move their website from a proprietary CMS system to Drupal, a powerful, open-source platform. We used HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Twig, Sass, and more to create a brand new site from the ground up and migrate a massive amount of content over to Drupal 8 when it was still in release candidate status. Now I help my clients migrate from Drupal 8 to 9 and starting in 2023, to Drupal 10.

I wear a lot of hats on my teams. I write custom modules, create content types and Paragraphs, code templates, and theme from scratch. I maintain and update custom modules and keep the code-base up-to-date with the latest security patches for core and contributed modules.

ECLKC

For 8 years I worked on the Head Start Information and Communications Center project for the Office of Head Start.

The website is called ECLKC, the Early Childhood Learning and Knowledge Center . It's a huge site that helps Head Start teachers, administrators, and families to learn and find important information.

I wrote the code for the front page of this website.

An area of pride for me is my knowledge of and commitment to responsive websites and Accessibility standards / Section 508 compliance. It's the right thing to do.

Bulgarian Red Cross

Via Peace Corps Response, I stayed in Bulgaria and created a website for the Red Cross. I designed, developed, and implemented an international, multilingual website using Joomla, the open-source CMS framework with PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

The build included integrating the Moodle open-source e-learning platform.

To complete the tour, I trained inter-departmental, non-technical users to produce new content for display, secure the website, manage user groups, and upload new e-learning coursework.

CVS-Bulgaria

Via Peace Corps Response, I was sent to help the Cooperation for Voluntary Service of Bulgaria. I planned, produced, and implemented an international, multilingual website using WordPress, the open-source CMS framework with PHP, HTML, and CSS.

Before the end of that tour, I trained the board members to use new technologies including updating their website, banner advertising, security, backup, and the use of social media for non-profit organizations for marketing and promotion.

Along the way, I generated custom artwork; logo revision; and print advertising campaigns. It's been over 15 years since I built that site and it's still used today.

Inside, I'm a gamer who loves books. Or a reader who loves games. Coding is the perfect career for my technological leanings and I'm fortunate to do something I love for a living.

Outside, I run around on my bicycles or motorcycle and I am a certified Stress & Rescue diver.

I taught adults computer literacy at the MLK Jr. Memorial Library in Washington, DC for 4 years before moving back to Colorado. Learning how to build a simple website is powerful for anyone. Most recently, I built a website for a wildlife conservation group in Malawi through Peace Corps Virtual Service.
